Position Announcement
1Sky and Alaska Marine Conservation Council
POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
ALASKA CLIMATE CHANGE ORGANIZER
1Sky (www.1sky.org) is a campaign to build a movement at the scale of the climate challenge by communicating a pro-active vision, and advocating a clear, simple set of goals and policy initiatives. 1Sky was borne from the collective urgency and determination of a diverse group of leaders with many strengths, audiences, and organizing strategies and 1Sky aggregates that power. 1Sky is building a central staff in Washington, DC, and up to 50 organizers placed with partner organizations in target congressional districts around the country, to carry out our mission.
Alaska Marine Conservation Council (AMCC) (www.akmarine.org) is partnering with 1Sky in Alaska to advance a platform of bold, science-based solutions to climate change and ocean acidification. AMCC is a non-profit, non-partisan organization dedicated to protecting the long-term health of Alaska’s oceans and sustaining the working waterfronts of our coastal communities. Our members include fishermen, subsistence harvesters, marine scientists, small business owners and families. AMCC partners with scientists to communicate the marine impacts of global climate change and ocean acidification, promotes precautionary approaches to fisheries management, and supports citizen initiatives at all levels of government to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
1Sky and AMCC seek an organizer who will coordinate communications on federal policies that address greenhouse gas emissions to AMCC members and coastal constituencies and to collaborate with others organizing around energy and climate change statewide. The organizer will enable a diverse set of concerned groups, businesses, individuals, and community constituencies to demonstrate strong public support for federal action on global warming and ocean acidification in a manner that meets the scale of the problem. The organizer will report to AMCC’s Executive Director and the 1Sky Field Director.
