Cooperative Research

by Diana DeFazio last modified May 21, 2007 05:36 PM

Alaska's vast size, small population, rough waters and remote location are all factors contributing to a scarcity of oceanographic measurements. These data are needed to provide a clearer picture of changes that are occuring and better understand how the warming trend and climate variability along that trajectory may affect fish populations, and thus fisheries.

AMCC's cooperative research plan - now developed and awaiting funding - will provide opportunities for fishermen to help fill  important gaps in oceanographic measurements. It is aimed at collecting data at times of the year and in locations where there is a lack of monitoring, helping to chart trends important to fisheries management.
