The Films!

(Descriptions provided by the Wild and Scenic Film Fest)

The Fun Theory - Something as simple as fun is the easiest way to change people's behavior for the better. Can we make recycling fun to do, so you are not just rewarded with a good conscience, you also get a smile?

A Year in the Desert - Each season in the Anza Borrego desert has its special creatures: tiny hummingbirds, darting lizards, slithering snakes, head-butting bighorns. Their land is seared by ground temperatures of 180 degrees, swept by a flash flood, even blanketed by a snow storm. Yet thy not only survive, they thrive.

Big River - the film makers of King Corn are back! Curt and Ian have returned to Iowa with a new mission: to investigate the environmental impact their acre of corn has had on the people and places downstream. Check out the trailer here!

Glynwood -  Glynwood, a local non-profit in the Hudson Valley, empowers communities to support farming and conserve farmland, while also demonstrating the economic viability of environmentally sustainable agriculture.

Flathead Wild - In July 2009 the International League of Conservation Photographers sent a Rapid Assessment Visual Expedition (RAVE) to the Flathead River Valley in British Columbia. The team of photographers, scientists, local conservation organizations, and cameramen documented the beauty and the destruction of this area, which is threatened by mountain top removal and methane drilling proposals.

A Sheltered Sea - The Marine Life Protection Act, a pioneering conservation action taking place along the coast of California, is bringing together diverse stakeholders - fishermen, conservationists, scientists, government officials, divers, and ocean-loving citizens - in a process to set aside marine areas to promote the safeguarding of marine habitats and fisheries. Check out the trailer here!

Planting Hope - The simple act of planting trees by Kenyan Wangari Maathai grew into a nationwide movement to safeguard the environment, protect human rights, and defend democracy.

Everyday at School - Follow a class Down Under as they spend the first five minutes of every day at school taking action to change the world in positive ways.

Nature Propelled - Seth Warren embarks on a new adventure with his nature-powered fire truck named Baby. Baby's journey helps to demonstrate the connection between the elements, renewable energy, adventure sports, and practical ways that individuals can use these elements to power their lifestyles. Check out the trailer here!

Be sure not to miss this great event! Come early for door prizes and a chance to network with local conservation groups.

Volunteer! Be a sponsor! Donate!

If you are interested in volunteering on the night of the event, or if you or your business would like to be a monetary sponsor or donate refreshments for intermission, please contact Julia Beaty at julia"at"akmarine.org or (907)277-5357. Benefits of being a monetary sponsor or a donor could include vocal recognition at the event, your logo in our program, your logo on screen, and your banner in the lobby.
